1. Request Registration Form

Email [email protected] then mail to CSA Bonding Co. PO Box 93447, Cleveland, OH 44101.  Be sure to include your $225 tuition payment with form.   Once we receive your original form and non-refundable course tuition, we'll send out your course materials within 3 to 5 days.

2. When you're ready, YOU pick date & time of your proctored exam.

WE pick the location - generally within 30 miles of your home or office. Email for exam request form then complete & mail original to our office at CSA Bonding Co.  You have up to 1 year from the date of registration to pass our proctored exam.  We must receive your request 2 weeks before requested exam date.  We'll notify you of exam location 3+ days before requested time & date.  First proctored exam fee included, re-takes $60 each.

3. Successful Completion

Within about week or less after you successfully pass your proctored exam, we'll mail you a course completion certificate.  This certificate will be provided to the State of Ohio Department of Insurance as proof of your successful completion of the pre-licensing course.

Will you teach me how to start a surety bail bond business?

NO.  Our course is not a business startup-guide.  We focus specifically on what you need to pass the state test.  We don't distract you with material you don't need to pass the test.  This course is test preparation, not a business start-up guide.

How do I become a licensed bondsman in ohio?  Do I need to be licensed?

Please refer directly to the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) website about the licensing requirements, licensure process, or other questions about surety bail bonds in Ohio.

Is being a bondsman the same as 'dawg the bounty hunter'?

Generally speaking, NO!  A modern bondman more closely resembles an insurance salesman.  Fugitive recovery is almost always optional, depending on the agency you work with.

How can I pay for my surety bail bond class?

We accept checks and money orders.  Credit cards or cash are not accepted at this time.  Payment in advance is required, please submit along with your original registration form.

How do I get a refund for ohio bondman classes tuition or proctor fees?

Since this is a self-study course and your participation begins the moment you receive our course materials, we're unable to give refunds once we initiate delivery of your course materials.

Where do I take surety bail class proctored exam?

You let us know (at least 2 weeks in advance) the date and time you wish to take the exam, and a few alternates, and we'll pick the location.  Where available, we generally schedule the exam at the date and time within 30 miles of your home or work address.  You are responsible for transportation to and from the exam location.  Exam must begin at the exact time scheduled, and end exactly one hour later -- don't be late, there is no make-up time permitted.

When can I take the Ohio surety bail bond prelicensing class exam?

You can take exam anytime within 1 year of registering for our course.  We must receive your proctored exam request at least 14 days before your requested exam date.  If we do not receive your request within that timeframe, your request will be rejected.  This is the minimum time required, and we appreciate additional time if possible.  We need this time to arrange and notify ODI of the proctored exam location.

What will happen once I request a surety bail class proctored exam?

What if I don't pass the proctored ohio surety bail bond course exam?

Make no mistake about it: our Ohio bondsman class exam is not easy. If you study hard and take the course seriously, you won't have a problem.  If you pass our exam, you should feel very confident you'll pass the state test.  However, if you fail pass the exam, we'll allow you to retake the exam up to 3 times within 1 year of course registration.  The first proctored exam fee is included in the course tuition.  Additional proctored exams are $60 each and must be paid upon exam request.

Do you offer employment in connection with this course?

NO!  We offer this course as a convenience to the industry.  Once you pass our course and are licensed, you're encouraged to apply for employment at the agency of your choice.

Does this ohio surety bail class meet the ohio department of insurance (ODI) requirements for initial pre-licensing?

YES!  Since 2008, we've been an ODI State-Authorized self-study course provider for Surety Bail Bond Agent pre-licensing needs.

Does this ohio surety bail bond course meet the ohio department of insurance (odi) requirements for existing agent continuing education?

NO!  Our course does not currently qualify as continuing education credit.

What's included in the surety bail bond class materials?

We include course rules, handbook published by the Department of Insurance, and course textbook "Ohio Surety Bail Bond Agent Pre-Licensing Manual".  The textbook is professionally bound published by our company.  If you're another school and would like to use our textbook, please order sample copy from Amazon.com then email for quantity discounts of up to 60% off retail.

What types of bondsman classes are offered in ohio?

There are two different types of available pre-licensing education that are permitted by the ODI.  Classroom and Self-study.  We only offer a self-study course.  Here's a summary of each:

20-HOUR INSTRUCTOR HOSTED SURETY BAIL BOND CLASS - We do NOT offer this type of course.  In-person attendance in classroom environment for full 20 hours.  Each instructor and school has option to require student pass an exam to pass the course; ODI regulations do not require a exam be given or passed.  If you show up, you qualify under ODI rules to receive a COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE.  If you're interested in this type of course, please see the ODI website for authorized schools.

OUR SELF STUDY AT HOME SURETY BAIL BOND CLASS - This is the course we offer.  You receive course textbook and materials in the mail.  Your study the materials, then when you're ready, you contact us to schedule a proctored exam.  By ODI regulations, you must pass our exam before we can award you a COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE.  (If you're not a disciplined self-learner, a self study course is not for you!  Please consider a classroom course from another provider.)

Either way, once you receive a COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE, you need to pass another test given by ODI.

What rules must be followed when taking the ohio surety bail bond course exam?

When you receive notification of  Ohio bondsman class exam location and confirmation of date and time, you'll also receive a comprehensive list of rules and procedures that must be followed when taking the exam.  Be sure to read them carefully, failure to follow the rules may disqualify you from passing this course and/or disqualify you from licensure.
